3rd Annual LD in BigD

Long Distance Boomerang Tournament

Eastfield College
3737 Motley Dr.
Mesquite, TX 75150

Free to watch; $10 entry fee. Friday the 5th is a warm up day and we'll also throw on Sunday, though the scoring rounds will all be Saturday, June 6th. There's a Microtel hotel just across the freeway from the field; reasonable and nice, according to those who've stayed there in the past. Remember to bring something for the prize table. We'll go directly from the end of competition to Spring Creek BBQ and have awards there. For those in on Friday, I'm planning to do something Friday night, maybe dogs and beer with the turtles :-) ... more on that later.

All levels of skill are welcome and I have free loaner booms if you don't have any LD booms.

August 21-23, 2009 Delaware, OH The USBA Boomerang Nationals and Expo
Delaware, OH

The 2009 Nationals are planned for the weekend of August 21-23 in Delaware,Ohio. We have a HUGE polo field and the event will coincide and be co-promoted with the 5th Annual Ohio Polo Classic here in Delaware. That event draws more than 1000 spectators all by itself! Huge tents, food and drink vendors, plus sales booths and the whole hoopla surrounding another "off the beaten path" sport will make for a great weekend of fun and exposure for our sport.

The field is HUGE...20 acres of flat grass...you cannot believe your eyes. It is 600 meters by 300 or 400 meters...i can't even tell. No poles, no wires, no wind blocks, no trees, it's crazy! This field will be one of the best distance fields ever! It is so sweet with clean air in all directions.

Check it out:

Concessions are available on field all weekend. All boomerang contestants and family members will receive free passes to polo match. There will be a large kids area tent and we will set up boomerang sales area within this tent. YOU MUST PROVIDE A SALES PERSON FOR YOUR PRODUCTS. Alcohol sales will be held within the polo grounds only.

This weekend is an international sports festival featuring the Polo Match (China), the Boomerang Nationals (Australia) and a Sheep herding event (New Zealand). Crowd estimates based on last year's event are 1500-2000 spectators Saturday and Sunday. We are going to have a chance to promote and display our sport to thousands of spectators, plus a national audience as Sports Illustrated is sending staff, along with every major media outlet. Bring your "A game" with you, as well as a great attitude and behavior. We want to show boomerangs as a family-friendly, exciting, and active sport for men, women and children to all participate and have fun in.

I will be orchestrating/ choreographing the demos and Gregg will be announcing. We will feature the best throwers in quick, fast paced action. You will be contacted directly regarding your involvement in the demos.

Part of the flavor for the weekend is that we will be throwing during specified times and free to watch and participate in other activities at other times. It should be a relaxed pace, with tightly organized throwing for 4-6 hours, then switch pace, as opposed to a 10-12 hour boomerang marathon. 3 events Saturday and 3 events Sunday. Get ready to enjoy!

For flying in for the nationals which will be August 21, 22, 23 in Delaware, Ohio, the closest major airport is Columbus (CMH). It is 40 minutes to Delaware from the airport. EZ drive, all highway. There is a private airport right in Delaware if you are a pilot or know someone.

HOUSING: all the housing in the area is affordable compared to anywhere else since we are a small town. Check everything out and link directly to the hotels and motels through this site:
