Accuracy

Can you throw a boomerang and have it land in the bullseye?

One of the only events where you don’t catch the boomerang, but it tests your throwing in a unique way!

Competitors throw from the center of a two (2) meter circle with a boomerang that must go at least 20 meters. Each thrower gets ten (10) throws, with each earning points ranging from zero to ten (0-10), creating a total score out of 100.

The points are awarded based on where the boomerang lands. You may not touch the boomerang after it is thrown, or you will get zero points for that throw.

There are five circles drawn on the field, at the 2m, 4m, 6m, 8m, and 10m mark. The closer your boomerang lands to the center of the bullseye, the more points are awarded. A bullseye within the 2m circle is worth 10 points, and decreases by 2 points for each circle moving outwards, with a boomerang landing between the 8m and 10m worth 2 points.

If the boomerang lands on the line beyond the 10m, it is worth zero points. If the boomerang lands on one of the lines, it is worth the average of the two circles. So a boomerang landing on the 2m line would be worth 9 points, down to the one landing on the 10m line being worth 1 point.

Tandem Throwing

Many times in competition, you will throw with another thrower at the same time. After the first person makes their throw, the second competitor must throw their boomerang within three seconds, or the throw will automatically get a zero. If a thrower interferes with the other competitor’s boomerang, they get a zero for their throw, and the other competitor gets a re-throw after the rest of their throws are made.

General Tips

While this may sound surprising, many throwers use a high wind fast catch boomerang. You would think that with a boomerang that is spinning quickly, when it lands it would cartwheel far away. However, if you throw the boomerang a little higher and to the right more (or left for left-handed throwers), you can get the boomerang to lay over more, allowing it to land more gently while still remaining accurate.
